Isn’t the thought of sleeping on satin bedding relaxing, sexy and romantic? You can easily imagine the smooth feel of satin on your skin, and on hot nights it can surely ease the annoying stickiness of sweat on the skin. Black satin bedding sheets also exude romance in the air and it’s easy to imagine kicking back, relaxing with champagne, turning on some music, and just having a relaxing time in bed.

Satin is a man-made fabric: made from a combination of polyester, silk and nylon acetate. It is surprising that satin may be partially made out of silk, but the first satin material that was created out of silk is known as silk satin. Satin has basically most of the qualities that can be found in natural silk fabric (which cost more than satin).

Satin sheets give an idea of immense lavishness and luxury. It feels soft, smooth and cool beneath your hands, a tactile delicacy for some. You can distinguish the front part and back part of the satin bedding sheet since the back portion of the sheet is duller than the front. There are several types of satin sheets: the first one is bridal satin. This is the closest one to a stain sheet. The second is charmeuse satin, which is finely woven polyester similar to those satin used for lingerie and is much lighter than bridal satin.

Now that you have your satin sheets in hand, it’s very important to take care of them in order to make them last for a long time. There are some useful tips on how to take care of your satin bed sheets, to ensure that the feeling of opulence, sexiness and luxury will be experienced for a long, long time. Direct sunlight can be a reason for your satin to fade. It may be a better idea for you to use polyester satin if you think your sheets will be exposed to a lot of sunlight. If you plan to store your sheets for a long time, find an airtight container to store it in and place it in a cool, dark space. Air out your sheets once in a while in order to freshen it.

Do not place your satin sheets close to radiators or heaters. The fibers will break down if exposed to heat and the fibers will break down. This will lower your bedding’s quality. Avoid wearing clothes or pyjamas that have lots of zippers or metal buttons to bed. This may produce snags in the sheets. Be sure to remove the pilling carefully. Lots of stores sell machines that remove pilling from sheets.

When it comes to washing satin, it is advisable to do so by hand.  Exceptions to this rule, however, are nylon and polyester types of satin. These kinds of satin can be washed using the gentle cycle of washing machines. Use warm or cool water only. Detergents that are made for delicate fabrics are recommended. Be sure to check your satin sheets for instructions included in the cover.

Extremely delicate satins should be dry-cleaned to prevent damages to materials, and to help the color from fading. Never use bleach, or wring out satin bed sheets or pillow cases. To remove excess water, lay them on dry towels. Most importantly, never let stains sit on your fabric. It’ll be more difficult to remove stains once the stains settled in your fabric. If you know how to properly take care of your satin sheets, you will surely lengthen the lifespan of your bedding so that you can use it for many years to come.
